After twilight until the morning light After Twilight, the club Jikano worked at was always busy on weeknights, but on Wednesdays it was especially packed. The drag club had a contest on those nights for the best costume and make-up and the hostesses had a bitter rivalry going over the title of 'Queen of the Night.' Every week it was someone new. Jikano had his hands full working on costumes, a needle in his hand as he worked on fixing individual sequins back on a cobalt blue bustier with peacock feathers attached to the base in long elegant bead work. "Party like it's 1939~" he sang to himself as he worked, sitting behind the bar on a stool he had drug back there. All the costumes he had been enslaved for adjusting were laid out over the long lacquered wood. A white feathery number was next on his list. The Hostesses bickered in the background and he just smiled. Ever since he'd met Levia he was more relaxed, more at ease with himself. Sometimes he couldn't help but think of the people around him differently. Like sheep. But sheep are cute, yeah? Hehehe... Mama-san came up behind him, swatted him hard on the back to get his attention. "It's almost time Kano," she said in her silvery baritone. He had nearly fallen out of the chair, the older man much stronger than he looked. "Did you find someone who can fit my Lost Angel dress? Lost Angel must be in the show again..." Mama-san was fanning herself now, giving Jikano a raised brow. "No, not yet Mama-san..." he sighed. This was such a pain, but he owed her so much. And he had spent a day adjusting the lines on Lost Angel so that it would be ready. It needed repairs, it had spent so many years in a box in Mama-san's closet that the fabric had even started to fade. But with some loving attention he rescued it. "I'm putting the sign out Kano, maybe some new... glamorous princess will wear my Lost Angel tonight. You never know, though I am exceptionally lucky. My horoscope today said that I would find something I was looking for and that I am well liked by all who know me," the older man smiled. His hair was still up in curlers and he was wearing a silk embroidered bathrobe over his traditional slips. "Aye, always the luckiest," he smiled, setting down the peacock corset and holding up the beloved outfit that had won Mama-san so many contests before. "We are now open for business!" Mama-san clapped, propping the door open so that the music could be heard outside once things started. The regulars would filter in. Jikano sat at the bar, the rack of costumes standing beside. There was a note set on the board outside announcing the contest saying it was looking for someone who could be After Twilight's rescue angel. KAI MCLANE ✖ notes : it finally happened |
